In August 2022, I attended the launch of a homesharing initiative on Limerick’s Northside, featured by I Love Limerick.
The initiative, led by Our Home Hosts, focused on encouraging homeowners with spare rooms to consider homesharing as one practical response to accommodation pressure in Limerick. It was launched with Mayor Francis Foley and highlighted the potential for unused bedrooms to support renters, students and working professionals while also generating additional income for homeowners.
What stood out to me about the initiative was its practical, local approach. Housing and accommodation challenges are complex, but sometimes progress starts with identifying existing capacity in communities and making it easier, safer and more accessible for people to use it.
The Northside homesharing initiative was an example of local enterprise, community need and practical problem-solving coming together around a real issue for Limerick.
