In April 2026, I was pleased to represent Learning Limerick at the European and North American Network of Learning Cities meeting and International Learning Cities Seminar in Cork.
The event brought together learning cities from Ireland, Europe and North America to share practice, explore common challenges and continue shaping the future direction of the network. It was hosted as part of Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival and provided a valuable opportunity to connect with other cities committed to lifelong learning, inclusion and community development.
As Chairperson of Learning Limerick, I joined Lifelong Learning Facilitator Yvonne Lane in participating in the network meeting and related events. The Cork session built on the first meeting of the European and North American Network, which had taken place in Évry-Courcouronnes, France in September 2025, where I presented on Learning Limerick and the Learning Limerick Ambassadors project.
The Cork seminar also gave Learning Limerick an opportunity to share our partnership approach and highlight how our new Strategic Plan 2026–2030 will guide the work of partners over the next five years.
What stood out from the event was the importance of collaboration between cities. Lifelong learning is not only about courses or qualifications. It is about building confidence, strengthening communities, widening participation and making learning visible and accessible across every stage of life.
For Limerick, participation in these networks matters. It allows us to learn from other cities, share our own experience, and continue positioning Limerick as a city and region that values education, skills, inclusion and lifelong learning.
